Major Mineral Resources.. 

1. PETROLEUM/NATURAL GAS

Petroleum and Natural gas go hand in hand, this was first discovered in Oloibiri, Bayelsa state in 1959. Petroleum is by far the most important mineral available in Nigeria. About 2.5 million barrels of crude oil is produced per day while the gas reserves are put at 160 Trillion cubic meters.This large quantity of oil is produced by only 8 States known as the oil-producing States located in the Niger Delta Region of the country. These states include Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, Ondo, Abia and Imo. Nigeria currently has 4 refineries for refining crude oil though none can be said to be fully functional. These include 2 in Rivers state, one in Warri while the remaining one is in Kaduna state.

2. COAL

Coal was first discovered in 1909 at Enugu and exploration of it started at the Ogbete Mine in 1916. The Nigerian coal is one of the best coal in the world owning to low sulphur and ash content making it eco-friendly. From research, it had been discovered that Nigeria has nearly 3 billion tonnes of indicated coal reserves in 17 identified coal fields. Currently, only over 600 million tonnes of proven reserves are present. This mineral is very good with energy though it is not widely used in Nigeria owing to the shift to use of Diesel and gas. Internationally, countries like Italy and the United Kingdom shows interest in it. Currently, most of the mines had been deserted and the Federal Government is planning of privatisation it.

3. BITUMEN

This mineral resources was first discovered in 1900 and the exploration started in 1905. The Bitumen reserves in the Nigeria is twice the volume of the existing crude oil in the country. It is put at 42 billion tonnes. The irony of it however is, this large reserves are not been exploited and most of the bitumen used in road constructions are imported.

4. IRON ORE

Iron ore is another mineral resources in Nigeria with its largest deposit in Itakpe, Kogi state. Aside Kogi, it is also present in Enugu, Niger state and the Federal Capital Territory. About 3 billion metric tonnes of iron ore is said to be present in the country. The National Iron Ore Mining Company was founded in 1979 in order to explore and provide this iron ore to the Ajaokuta Steel Company in Ajaokuta and Delta Steel Company in Aladja. This company cannot be said to have kept to its mission and the two steel companies are even non-functional.

5. GYPSUM

The importance of gypsum cannot be overemphasised, it is used in the production of cement, plaster of Paris (POP) as well as the classroom chalk among others. About 1 billion

tonnes of gypsum deposits are spread across some states in Nigeria.

6. GOLD

Gold is one of the mineral resources in Nigeria that is exploited on a small scale. The exploration of gold is not very dominant and can be found only in States like Sokoto, Zamfara, Oyo, Niger, Kwara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Edo, Ebonyi, Bauchi and Abuja.

So we should seperate bias when choosing our leaders

Sir, I went out today to buy Bread for the family, a bread that was sold at 400 Naira at the beginning of this year suddenly it seems to be using skipping rope like every other thing in Nigeria that Jumps through the hoop, it is now sold at 1,100 Naira and the size is shorter, the taste reduced and everything has been tampered with as if it is just a mold of Flour.

Price of painter of Beans which was at 800 is hovering at 2,000 and above and without hope of stagnancy.

Provisions prices seems to have quadrupled, even Pure Water prices jumped from 60 Naira to 250 Naira, we know that Pure water replaced WATER CORPORATION provision which was the family sources of water in the past but for now Children born around 80s can only read about the exploit of WATER CORPORATION on Books as they can't even find any abandoned Government Water Taps that may raise questions of curiosity , not as if Nigeria have a narrative that will give our children's the history or call it the checkered history of this Nation.

Even as we speak our tertiary students don't know our current affairs, so let's perish the thought of them knowing our past history and we don't find it repulsive, as even our Education Minister don't even worry because it doesn't matter not even to members of our ineptitude legislation, if we had a robust legislation, they would have summoned and terminated the works of MINISTER OF LABOUR and that of  EDUCATION that allowed the strike of our Students to last over a Month, but in Nigeria our kids who are supposed to be our future have been out of school for about a year, not because they didn't pay school fees or they have committed one of the abnormalities that happens around Youths especially tertiary ones, but they are out of school for the fact that Government are owning lecturers , not as if Lecturers requested for an increment because of the astronomical nature of things in Nigeria, they weren't asking to be fairly treated, they simply were asking for payment of the unjust and under payment that was negotiated for them but never paid.

As we speak he is recovering in HOSPITAL at Nnewi TEACHING HOSPITAL and Joe Martin's Uzodike is footing the bill but I think it is time ADAMAWA BIG SHOTS will step inn and start shouldering the bills as  there is more operations to extract the remaining bullet and correct somethings.

I visited the Kuje Prison for the first time yesterday to see for myself the scene of the attack and somehow put myself in the mind of the attackers in a kind of playback. I wanted to also see if I could identify some factors that might have contributed to the seeming ease with which the attack was carried out and assess how existing security measures in Kuje compare with what should be the standard for a facility of similar standing.

ABOUT KUJE PRISON

a. It is classified as a Medium Security prison meaning it is supposed to hold inmates whose escape would pose just moderate risk to community and /or inmates with moderate capacity to break jail. (A BHT/ISWAP/Ansaru terrorist is high risk and should be in a maximum security prison)

b. Kuje is designed to hold 560 inmates maximum but as at time of attack was holding some 1000 inmates ie less supervision 

c. The main access road leading to the main gate is covered by trees and overgrown bushes such that one’s approach is effectively covered from sight of sentries at gate even in daylight not to say night. 

d. The outer perimeter wall is just about 6-7ft high as against recommended height of 8-15 ft.

e. Only one or two coil  of razor wire placed on top of perimeter wall against recommended 3 coils one on top the other.

f. No second inner fence line once you are over the first perimeter wall you’re through. Prison buildings should have outer and inner fence lines with a clear zone of at least 10 yards in between. 

g. The walls of the prison (which attackers broke) is of ordinary cement and block instead of recommended 4 inch thick reinforced concrete wall or precast. 

h. There are two observation towers but not high enough with line of sight covered by trees and thick bushes . Additionally being positioned deep inside building instead of by the outer perimeter wall the observation towers cannot serve the intended purpose which is to be able to sight /engage with fire, intruders far off before they even reach outer perimeter or raise alarm. 

I. A few cctv cameras on the towers (dunno if working) but such cctv should have been on the outer approaches.

m. I observed a few fixed stationery security lights around but preferably movable lights that are wired to motion sensors so that they come on and point to area of intrusion. I confirm light was off during operation which could be normal power outage, deliberate action or no standby power

n. On site Response force (according to NCS official who briefed press) is supposed to comprise 38 military, some unspecified police and civil defense and armed correctional service personnel but no clarity if these were on ground on particular day. Conflicting testimonies 

O. The absence of any wounded or dead attacker left behind lends credence to the claim that all the armed defenders ran away without returning effective fire.

s. Mixing dangerous BHT inmates who ought to be in a maximum security prison with detained less dangerous politicians (Nyame Dariye Lawan Kyari) in same prison was against recommended practice for prison security of categorization and allocation of inmates and probably endangered the less dangerous politicians the attackers could have shot them just for the fun of it or abducted them
