Kalu, a Staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service ABS Awka, who doubles as the Head of Contents and Events, clinched victory with a landslide margin, defeating three other contenders from Rivers, Ekiti, and Ogun States respectively.
A seasoned media professional and respected unionist, Prince Emeka Kalu has lived and worked in Anambra State for several years, earning accolades for his leadership in the media industry and grassroots mobilization.
The outcome of the election has been greeted with widespread jubilation, particularly among media workers across the southeastern region, who hailed his emergence as a win for professionalism, youth inclusion, and progressive leadership in unionism.
In a historic milestone for the Radio, Television, and Theatre Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), Prince Emeka Kalu, also known as “Magic Finger,” has been elected as the union’s first National President from the Southeast region. This achievement marks a significant breakthrough in the union’s leadership, reflecting its commitment to the doctrine of national character.
A Cross Section of the Media and Cultural Workers have congratulated RATTAWU on this achievement, describing it as a “new dawn” in the union’s leadership. Hon. Kalu emphasized that this development demonstrates RATTAWU’s resolve to apply the doctrine of national character, promoting inclusivity and diversity within its leadership structure.
Prince Emeka Kalu, the newly elected National President, has promised to lead the union with a sense of responsibility. The RATTAWU election, which was keenly contested, saw several candidates vying for the position of National President. Other aspirants included Comrade Jasper Taiwo Falae, who has also been active in the union’s leadership, and Mr. Dare Durosimi and Opi Opakiriba the only female in the race. The election outcome is seen as a testament to the union’s commitment to promoting unity and cooperation among its members.
The Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Mr. Chris Molokwu, had earlier expressed optimism about Emeka Kalu’s chances, commending the unity and support among leaders in the Southeast zone.
